Oxford United captain Jake Wright has been named as the npower League Two player of the month for August.
The U’s skipper marshalled a tight back line that conceded just one goal in four games, winning every match to top the table going into September.
However, Oxford boss Chris Wilder was pipped to the manager of the month prize by Gillingham’s Martin Allen.
Although both sides had 100 per cent records, Allen’s team won two of their three league games away from home, and beat Bristol City in the Capital One Cup.
Oxford won just once on the road, at Bristol Rovers in their opening game of the season, their other three victories coming at the Kassam Stadium .
