David Beckham shared a laugh about his age with Barack Obama when the pair met at the White House.

The 37-year-old star - who has four children with wife Victoria Beckham - and the rest of the Los Angeles Galaxy team met the US president to celebrate their third Major League Soccer title.

Becks chuckled and blushed when Obama told him that half of his teammates "could be his kids", adding: "We're getting old, David."

But the president conceded that Becks - who has become known as something of a fashion plate as well as an athlete - was "holding up better than me".

Obama also ribbed the footballer about his outside interests, saying it was a "rare man who can be that tough on the field and also have his own line of underwear".

Becks gained widespread attention in the US in February when H&M aired adverts for his new underwear collection during the Super Bowl, the showpiece finale of the NFL American football season.
