Olympian Idowu to appear in court
Former triple jump world champion Phillips Idowu is set to appear in court on a drink-driving charge.
It is alleged that he drove a white Land Rover in Bridge Hill, Epping, Essex, while he was over the alcohol limit on September 20.
Idowu, 34, of Epping, is set to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court.
He is accused of driving while over the limit by having 96 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.
Idowu won a silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and World Championship gold in Berlin the following year. He was a hot tip for gold at last year's London Olympics but a leg and hip injury thwarted his medal hopes and he failed to make it through to the final.
Idowu has stopped short of retiring from track and field competition but has announced he is taking an extended break from athletics "for the foreseeable future".
