A34 TRUNK ROAD - NEAR ABINGDON AND OXFORD
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that Highways England Company Limited(a) intends to make an Order on the A34 Trunk Road in the County of Oxfordshire, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road. The effect of the Order would be to:-
a) authorise the phased overnight closure of;
i) both carriageways of the A34 between Milton Interchange (A4130) and Wendlebury Roundabout (M40 Junction 9);
ii) all slip roads leading to and from the carriageways described in a) above;
iii) all side roads at junction with the carriageways described in a) above;
iv) all bus stops adjacent to the carriageways described in a) above;
b) authorise the 24-hour closure of all lay-bys adjacent to the carriageways described in a) i) above;
These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake carriageway maintenance including resurfacing, road marking, reinstallation of studs and loops, drainage works, vegetation clearance, signage maintenance, carriageway and bridge inspections and surveys and all associated work. It is expected that the work would last for approximately 6 weeks starting on or after Wednesday 7th June 2017 in two phases: Phase One: Work between Milton Interchange (A4130) and Botley Interchange (A420) would take place from 7th June 2017 to 5th July 2017. Phase Two: Work between Botley Interchange (A420) and Wendlebury Roundabout (M40 Junction 9) would take place from 5th July
2017 to 14th July 2017.
The overnight closures for both phases
would take place between 21:00 and 06:00
The Order would come into force on
5 June 2017 and have a maximum duration
of eighteen months.
Traffic affected by the closures in phase one above would be diverted using the A420, A338, A417, A4130, A415, Colwell Drive, Copenhagen Drive, Dunmore Road, and the A4183. Traffic affected by the closures in phase two above would be diverted using the M40, A40,
A41, A44, A423, A4095, A4142, and B4030.
Heavy Goods vehicles would be diverted using the M40 and A40 to join the local traffic diversion above.
The diversion in operation would vary according to the closures in force. Access to and from premises accessible from, and only from, the carriageways described in a) above would be permitted by escort. The footway adjacent to the southbound carriageway of the A34 between Weston-on-the-Green Junction (B430) and Kidlington Junction would remain open but users would be escorted past physical work areas. The Oxfordshire County Council (B430, Weston on the Green) (Prohibition of Heavy Commercial Vehicles) Order 2005(b) would be suspended during Phase Two of the works as described above.
The closures and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
