ENVIRONMENT AGENCY ANNOUNCEMENT OF INTENTION NOT TO PREPARE AN ENVIRONMENTAL STATEMENT
Regulation 5 of the Environmental Impact Assessment | (Land Drainage Improvement Works) Regulations 1999 as amended by SI 2005/1399 and SI 2006/618 Knightsford Bridge Rock Ramp
The Environment Agency gives notice that it proposes to carry out the construction of a rock ramp at Knightsford Bridge (SO 73481 55722) to facilitate fish passage of Twaite Shad and other fish species past the existing Knightwick gauging weir. The proposed works involve the installation of a bespoke 30m length rock ramp immediately downstream of the existing gauging weir and spanning across the entire channel. Construction of the rock ramp will enable all fish species to bypass the existing barrier to migration for many species, including the critically designated Twaite Shad. At present it is not possible under most flow conditions for fish to migrate upstream past the structure for breeding. The Environment Agency considers that the improvement works are not likely to have significant effects on the environment and does not intend to prepare an environmental statement in respect of them. It is considered that the environmental risks can be managed through the preparation and implementation of an Environmental Action Plan and a Project Ecological Appraisal. Numerous environmental surveys have been performed on site to date using information generated from these reports and the proposed design incorporates the results.
Any person wishing to make representations in relation to the likely environmental effects of the proposed improvement works should do so, in writing, to the address specified below, within 28 days of the date of publication of this notice.
