The last year has been an exceptionally-challenging time for the social care sector: the pandemic brought not only the risk of infection, but fear about the virus in the communities we work in and, at the beginning, problems with the procurement of appropriate PPE.
However, in the face of such adversity, the strength and commitment of health and care workers shone through. Their fortitude kept people’s spirits up, and the country went out into the street to applaud them.
Day and Nightcare Assistance are particularly proud to be sponsoring the Domiciliary Care Worker Category: understandably the NHS and nursing homes dominated the TV coverage and yet domiciliary care workers also quietly donned PPE, put in long extra shifts, and worked to strict new regulations to offer Covid-secure support, hope, and reassurance to hundreds of thousands of people living in their own homes up and down the country. We are thrilled that they will be recognised with this award.
We are proud too that we continue to relieve pressure on the NHS, to our very best ability, by helping the elderly return home safely as quickly as possible after a spell in hospital, freeing up capacity in overstretched wards.
