People in South Oxfordshire will be able to use council car parks for free in the run up for Christmas.

The South Oxfordshire and Vale of White horse District councils hope to encourage people to buy local for these festive dates with this annual free parking tradition.

Councillor Andrew Crawford, from the Vale of White Horse District Council, highlighted the importance of supporting local traders as the economy slowly recovers from the pandemic.

Drivers would not have to display a ticket when parking, however maximum stay times will still apply in specific car parks.

Councillor Sue Cooper, from the South Oxfordshire District Council, said: “We have a great selection of independent shops offering very different and original gifts which would make the perfect Christmas present, and by buying local you will also be supporting your own community.

“I would always urge people to walk, cycle or use public transport where possible, but I know that may not always be possible for those picking up larger presents or those who live further away in rural areas.”
