A woman was left disgusted after discovering two beetles in a sandwich that were so huge they could be seen through the outer plastic wrapper.

Natalie Mudge, from Wantage, is now so squeamish that she can no longer eat packaged food.

Ms Mudge came across the extra-fresh ingredients when she bough a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich at a Sainsbury's filling station in Wantage.

Among the crunchy lettuce and juicy slices of bacon lay two huge black beetles.

Ms Mudge: "They were massive," she said. "I can't eat packaged food any more and I now feel sick when eating."

Herald Series:

Pictures show the two insects, nearly an inch long, were so large they were visible through the outer packaging.

Sainsbury's compensated Ms Mudge with £200 of vouchers but Ms Mudge said: "It's not enough."

A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: “We are looking into this customer’s experience.

"Cases like this are extremely rare because we have processes in place to prevent them from happening.”
