YOUNGSTERS will soon be able to able to enjoy a new play area thanks to the hard work of Cogges Meadow Park Community Group.

The Oxlease project was made possible by a £46,000 grant from WREN and funding from a variety of local organisations.

WREN is a not-for-profit business that awards grants for community, biodiversity and heritage projects.

Joe Newby, WREN grant manager, said: "Good quality recreational facilities, which are accessible to all, are vital for community well-being.

"The Oxlease project will ensure that such facilities are available for the families and young people of Cogges for years to come.

"We were delighted to be able to support such a worthwhile project and are excited to see the outcome."

Work is due to start on on the play area in Cogges Meadow Park on August 29.

Councillor Suzanne Bartington, chairwoman of the Cogges Meadow Park Community Group believes the facility will make a 'huge difference' to the lives of people living in the area.

She said: "This project will provide a real boost to the recreational opportunities for people of all ages in Cogges.

"It’s fantastic that WREN and other local charities, groups and individuals have supported us through grant awards and fundraising.

"We hope the new play area will be ready for children to enjoy by the end of September."

In addition to support from WREN, the project has gained funding from: Cottsway, Witney Lions, GW Bartington Will Trust Fund, Witney Round Table, Bruce Wake Charitable Trust, Bartlett Taylor Charitable Trust, Witney Town Hall Charities, Witney Lions, Greggs Environmental Fund, Witney Town Council, Waitrose and fundraising by the local community.
