THE Mayor of Abingdon, fellow councillors and residents will join the annual beating of the bounds for New Year’s Day.
Jan Morter and the group will meet in the Market Square at 10.50am on Monday to begin the ceremony at 11am.
Together they will attempt to walk the ‘ancient boundaries’ of the town made at the time of a Royal Charter issued by Queen Mary in 1556.
The walk is expected to take roughly two hours, finishing at about 1pm.
Members of public are welcome to join the ritual.
