A SECONDARY school with 1,067 students has been praised for its 'determination and ambition', but advised to improve A-Levels.

Ofsted has rated The Marlborough CE School Woodstock 'good' overall, but 'requires improvement' for its study programmes for 16-19 year-olds.

A report published on Tuesday stated: "Leaders have established an ethos of high aspirations.

"The principal is determined and ambitious for the school.

"Staff care a great deal about pupils' personal development and emotional well-being."

Ofsted also revealed the school is due to join the River Learning Trust next month, a group in charge of 10 other Oxfordshire schools.

Inspectors were impressed by the 'rich and varied curriculum'.

They could only pick fault with A-Level results, noting progress is below the national average.

The school teaches 192 pupils aged 16-19, according to Ofsted.

It stated: "Leadership of the sixth form is now improving... [but] improvements are not happening quickly enough to secure better outcomes for current students."
