A CONTROVERSIAL plan for a new three storey building for two flats and an office has got the go-ahead from city councillors.

The West Area planning committee gave permission for the development on Cranham Street in Jericho.

As part of that, there will be a one-bedroom flat on the first floor, a two bedroom flat on the first and second floors and an office on the ground floor.

Councillors Colin Cook, Ed Turner, Linda Smith, Susanna Pressel and Mike Rowley demanded it was heard at committee 'on the grounds that this is an application on a controversial site and has been the subject of at least three withdrawn applications'.

The site sits adjacent to Jericho's Phoenix Picturehouse cinema on Walton Street.
