MORE than 100 homes were hit by water problems in the OX12 area over the bank holiday weekend, following a burst water main.

The problems led to Thames Water handing out free bottled water from Stockham Primary school in Wantage, but at one point their supplies ran out.

At least 120 homes reported issues to the company - some had no water and others had low pressure - but more are thought to have been affected.

Water supply is now back to normal.

In a statement, the company said: “We’re sorry to those who experienced low pressure or no water over the weekend due to a burst in the OX12 area. We worked hard to get everybody back into supply by re-routing the network and turning the affected pipe off to stop water escaping.

“Some residents may still experience intermittent low pressure particularly during peak hours, but this will be resolved as pressure builds in the network throughout today, and we’d like to thank people for their patience during this time.”

Local councillor Jenny Hannaby added: "They pin pointed where the problem occurred - developers off Denchworth Road have apparently caused the problem.

"When I spoke with Thames Water they were trying to get pressure back up but could not tell me when water would be back on for residents all he said it was major problem and down to developers to put right as its on their land."
