A MAN who was fatally hit by a train in Oxford has been named as Nathaniel Gould.

The 25-year-old was identified at Oxford Coroner's Court as the person who was found dead on the railway line at Tuckwells Level Crossing in Grandpont last Thursday.

Mr Gould, who was born in Carmarthenshire, died just days before his birthday and would have turned 26 on September 3.

Opening his inquest today, Oxfordshire coroner Darren Salter said Mr Gould was a bar manager who lived in Oxford.

He said his death was a suspected suicide and a full inquest for Mr Gould has been scheduled of January 10.

Emergency services pronounced Mr Gould dead at the scene just after 8am, and the railway line was temporarily closed.

Last week the Oxford Mail reported that the private crossing has a high risk rating and is passed by 270 trains a day, travelling at speeds of up to 90mph.
