THE final figures have been totted up and it has been revealed that a council Chairman raised more than £5,000 for charity in her year in office.

Jeannette Matelot was Chairman for South Oxfordshire until May and raised £5,300 for her chosen charity Homeless Oxfordshire.

This countywide charity each year provides accommodation for more than 200 people and gives out 75,000 free meals.

Mrs Matelot held events, including a musical concert at Cornerstone, an antiques supper in Tetsworth and a dinner in Henley to raise the money.

She said, “I thoroughly enjoyed my time as Chairman and would like to thank everyone who helped me fundraise.

"I will continue to help this wonderful charity that supports people to get their lives back on track.”

Homeless Oxfordshire visited the council’s offices on Milton Park last week to meet with staff to talk about the work they do around the county.

Whilst visiting they were presented with a cheque for the remaining amount they’d raised.

Claire Dowan, chief executive of Homeless Oxfordshire, said, “It’s been an absolutely fantastic year and the efforts and support Jeannette has shown us has been amazing.

"It was also great to visit the council’s offices to receive the cheque and have the chance to meet and discuss homelessness in Oxfordshire with the housing needs team."
