ROADWORKS are causing severe congestion on the A40 near Oxford this morning.
Westbound traffic travelling towards the city was queuing from Thornhill Park and Ride all the way back to the Ramada Oxford services near Waterstock during rush hour.
Traffic shown on Google Maps at 8am
One lane is closed due to works being carried out by Thames Water, which are expected to continue until Friday.
The road was still congested at 10am but queues had reduced to the Wheatley turn-off.
A frustrated driver who got stuck in the traffic at about 7am claimed there were no workers on site at the time, despite the inconvenience.
Another who drove past said the traffic was 'awful'.
I saw the traffic queue 😱. It was queued on top of the bridge from the M40 services to Wheatley too ; awful! I'll find a different way back to my work base later.

Details logged on roadworks.org were updated shortly before 8am to state the works were 'in progress'.
But an Oxford Mail reader tweeted just after 9am stating there was still no sign of anyone.
