A WELL-USED stretch of road left in a poor state following last winter's freezing conditions will be improved next week.

The A40 Marston eastbound slip road will be improved after the county council decided to spend £300,000 resurfacing the 350m route.

The council conceded it has been left in a sub-par condition due to the age of the road and the winter cold snaps last year and earlier this year.

About 3,230 sq. m will be resurfaced and funds will be taken from the extra £10m of road repair budget agreed by the county council's cabinet recently.

There has already been £1.6m worth of surface dressing. That has already resulted in around 33km in improvements.

As part of the eastbound slip, preparatory work will be undertaken on Friday between 8pm to 6am.

Other vegetation clearance will not need any road closures and will take place during next week.

Advisory signs for motorists are already placed along the road.

Resurfacing will take place between next Monday and Saturday, October 6.

All of that work will be undertaken at night with closures in place from 8pm until 6am every day.

Drivers might be disrupted. The council is advising motorists to plan their journeys and allow extra time.
