AN Oxfordshire painter has clocked up an impressive 1,000 portraits of dogs.

Clive Hemsley, 66, who mainly 'created ads for technology companies', took up the hobby after one of his labs accidentally bit a fellow dog walker, while eating a treat she offered.

Mr Hemsley painted her poodle as an apology, before offering to paint the first prize in a local dog photography competition - and ending up drawing all 65 entries.

Mr Hemsley believes the brown lab (pictured) is his 1,000th effort.

He said: "I’m definitely a lot quicker now - sometimes I even paint two at a time. I concentrate on the eyes and mainly use mixed media, including acrylics, pastels, inks and charcoal.

The Henley local added: "On to the next 1,000."
