DRIVERS in Oxfordshire are being warned to take extra care today as heavy rain in the aftermath of Storm Callum causes a hazard on the county's roads.

Thames Valley Police said there is standing water on many routes and advised caution, with more roads expected to flood as rain is forecast to continue throughout the day.

In Abingdon, the Stert Street junction of Vineyard is already completely blocked by water due to the downpour.

Oxfordshire has escaped more severe weather warnings for rain issued in other parts of the UK.

In a summary for the South East, the Met Office said: "Cloudy with outbreaks of rain becoming persistent and occasionally heavy through the morning.

"Rain then easing for a time during the afternoon, however it will stay rather cloudy. Maximum temperature 21 °C."

It added there was potential for 'heavy bursts' of rain overnight, with the downpour not expected to stop until tomorrow afternoon.
