FOUR women from Torfaen are looking to encourage people to exercise by setting up their own fitness class.

Donna Dunn, Stephanie Morse, Cally Tinton and Tracy Field met through Torfaen Council’s If You Go, I Go campaign which brought together women who had never exercised.

After meeting at the classes, they decided they wanted to encourage more people like them to exercise and set up their own class: Go2Gether.

Donna Dunn, from Go2Gether, applied to Bron Afon’s community grant scheme and was awarded £500. The scheme is funded by donations from Bron Afon’s contractors.

Fellow instructor Tracy Field said: “We would like to hold classes with young children and their parents along with older residents in retirement schemes and with people who don’t regularly exercise.

“Between the four of us we have a community youth worker and I’m a primary school teacher so we have the skills to bring people together and learn new things.

“It won’t be a fixed class on the same day and in the same venue. Our class will go out into the community to reach as many people as possible.”

Gemma Webster, community involvement officer for Bron Afon, said: “Their enthusiasm for encouraging others to do more exercise came over in their application form. It was a pleasure to let them know we could support their plans.

“It’s great to hear of a group that are focusing on creating an inclusive environment for all, allowing parents/carers and children to have the opportunity to work out together in a fun and relaxing environment.”
