OXFORD City are celebrating after their Emirates FA Cup replay was selected for live television coverage.

The first round tie with Tranmere Rovers at Court Place Farm will be broadcast by BT Sport next Tuesday, netting City an extra £33,750.

And if they can go one better than Saturday’s 3-3 draw at Prenton Park, they will have a winnable tie at home to Vanarama National League North strugglers Southport next month.

Oxford United were also in last night’s draw and have a reasonable shot at making the third round.

If they can safely negotiate their replay at Forest Green Rovers – also confirmed for next Tuesday – a trip to fellow Sky Bet League One strugglers Plymouth Argyle, who were beaten 2-0 at the Kassam Stadium last month, is in store.

While City led late on at Tranmere, the television windfall provides a silver lining for a club halfway through a mission to repay a £1.5m debt.

It is the second time in as many seasons they will have been on TV, following the 3-2 defeat at Notts County in the second round 12 months ago.

Boss Mark Jones said: “It’s brilliant for us. We experienced it last year and to get the cameras down is fantastic.

“It’s certainly one of the biggest games in the club’s history and the players will be looking forward to it.

“The club are absolutely delighted, it just helps chip away at the debt.”

He added: “The draw is also a fantastic opportunity.

“We’re still the underdogs against Tranmere, but if we got through I think both teams would look at it as a chance to reach the third round.”

City, who have a league game at Dartford tonight, were also in the draw for the Buildbase FA Trophy, where they were handed a home game with Chelmsford City.

The third qualifying round tie will be on Saturday, November 24.
