THAMES Water has issued an apology after sewage leaked over a main road and into the homes of residents on Tuesday.
A resident on Green Road, who wished to remain anonymous, told the Oxford Mail: “There was sewage coming from the drains, and it’s in my garage.
“It’s a health issue. I don’t want the smell of sewage in my garage.
“It was all over the main road, it’s affecting everyone.”
Michael Benke, a spokesperson at Thames Water, said: “We’re very sorry for the disruption this has caused.
“We were initially called to repair a collapsed sewer but the work has been more complicated than initially thought.”
He said the extent of the issue became clear after initial repairs.
He added: “We’re currently looking for a long-term solution to fix it which does not involve the closure of the road and would like to thank residents for their patience.”
Thames Water has been working at the site in Green Road, near the Headington roundabout, since June and closed the section next to the Eastern Bypass for sewer works.

Green Road actually reopened ahead of schedule, with Thames Water saying it had completed the work.
But there has been a Thames Water prescence in the area ever since, culminating in the latest episode.
The statement at the time said: "Our work to repair the sewer on Green Road has been successfully completed and we reopened the road on Thursday, slightly earlier than originally planned.
"While we had the road closed we also fixed a leak on a clean water pipe, reducing the likelihood of us having to come back again in the near future and saving precious water from being wasted.”
