WORK will be carried out at locks on the River Thames in Oxfordshire as part of a winter upgrades programme.
The Environment Agency will spend £100,000 on new gates for Day's Lock in Little Wittenham.
The brand new gates will be made in the agency's workshop in Osney and installed in 2019/20.
A further £100,000 will be spent as Rushey Lock, near Faringdon, where timber and balance beams will be replaced on all four lock gates.
It's part of a £2.1million programme of work along the river which has been described as 'one of the most extensive for some time.'
Other work being carried out includes upgrading lock control systems so they are easier for members of the public to operate; repairs to numerous towpath bridges; bank protection works at a number of locations; improved site security systems and a survey of all lock offices to check on their condition and identify improvements.
