CROWDS of clubbers queued through Oxford's city centre for the last ever night at Purple Turtle before its closed in Frewin Court.

More than 100 revellers could be seen bracing the cold weather as they lined up along Cornmarket Street, backing up towards Carfax Tower last night.

One on-looker said there was 'at least 100 people' waiting in line by about 10.45pm.

Oxford Mail:

It was the last hurrah for the Purple Turtle nightclub after it was announced last week that it would be closing.

For two decades the club has called the Frewin Court site its home but its managers said negotiations on securing a new lease with landlords Oxford Union had collapsed.

They have promised to try and find a new home for the club in a different location.

It opened for the last time in it's current location last night with a rock 'n' roll party until 3am.
