A WOMAN who won £2.3million on the National Lottery joined other winners to organise the ultimate Christmas party to give young carers a rest from their responsibilities.

Charmaine Watson, from Eynsham, was one of the lottery millionaires to host the party in Essex for clients of the charity Action for Family Carers.

With a combined wealth of more than £38 million, the winners spent the day on December 13 creating a winter wonderland before welcoming the party-goers to the exclusive venue.

The Young Carers, who ordinarily are juggling normal school life with caring for a family member, were made to feel like true superstars with a number even being chauffeur driven to the party.

Ms Watson said: "These young people are massively affected by caring for someone close to them who has a long-term illness, a physical or sensory impairment, learning difficulties, mental illness or is affected by alcohol/substance misuse.

"To think these children have such a responsibility at such a young age is really very humbling.

“We all hope that the party we have laid on shows our VIP guests how much they are valued, what an amazing job they are doing and also gives them a chance to really have fun.

"Judging by the shrieks of joy I think they were.”

The carers, aged between 8 and sixteen, were treated to makeover sessions, a mocktail bar, a festive photobooth, reindeer rodeo and all manner of disco-craziness.

Head of Carer Services, Heather Beach, said: "We want to thank everyone for creating such a memorable and special event.

"This is one VIP party I’m sure will be spoken of for many years to come.”
