A NIGHTCLUB has bid farewell to its home of nine years at an all-night party attended by hundreds.

Plush Lounge, one of Oxford’s only LGBTQ+ venues, bowed out of Park End Street on Saturday night.

Nearly 200 people had signed up on Facebook to attend the ‘last hurrah’, held ahead of the club’s move to Frewin Court off Cornmarket Street.

From next weekend, Plush will occupy the Oxford Union’s building opposite the Cellar which formerly housed the Purple Turtle nightclub.

The subterranean venue has been refurbished and now has three bars, a greater selection of drinks and more VIP areas and private hire spaces.

Plush will christen its new home with another party on Friday.

However the club has also been grilled on the accessibility of its new home.

Since 2007, Plush Lounge has hosted StingRay – Oxford's only disabled club night, organised by disability charity My Life My Choice.

But answering questions on Facebook last week, Plush managers conceded that wheelchair users will struggle to get down the new venue's steep steps.

Changes made to the layout include a newly-built ramp to the dance floor and wheelchair accessible toilet but getting down the venue’s steep staircase to the entrance 'remains an issue'.

Plush said: "We are fully committed to finding a solution and are working with specialist partners to resolve this."

Friday's grand opening party will run from 10pm until 3.30am.
