A MENTAL health support service in Oxfordshire is reminding people that help is available on what is claimed to be the ‘most depressing day of the year’.

The third Monday in January, dubbed ‘Blue Monday’ is associated with a post-Christmas dip in mood, dark nights, gloomy winter weather and unpaid bills.

TalkingSpace Plus is a free, NHS service where adults can self-refer to gain specialist help to overcome anxiety and depression.

The service is run by Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust, Oxfordshire Mind and Principal Medical Limited.

Clinical and professional lead for the Psychological Therapies Pathway in Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust, Joanne Ryder, says: “Feeling low, stressed or anxious can happen at any time, to anyone, from all walks of life and backgrounds.

“TalkingSpace Plus can help people quickly with psychological treatments that are proven to help in such situations.

“We have dedicated specialist staff who are trained to understand the specific needs or health issues associated with low mood and emotional difficulties.”

Anyone seeking help can self refer via www.talkingspaceplus.org.uk, by calling 01865 901222, or by writing to TalkingSpace Plus, Oxbridge Court, Osney Mead, Oxford, OX2 0ES.

Referrals by GP are also possible.
