A LAWYER is to give a talk in Abingdon about his victory in one of the most famous court cases of the past 20 years.

Richard Rampton QC will visit Abingdon School’s Amey Theatre on Tuesday, February 26 at 7pm, to recall his defence of Deborah Lipstadt against Holocaust denier David Irving, in a lengthy court case in 2000.

Prof Lipstadt is Dorot Professor of Modern Jewish History and Holocaust Studies at Emory College in Atlanta, Georgia and had accused Irving of Holocaust denial in her book Denying the Holocaust.

Mr Irving wanted the trial to take place in England since English libel law places the burden of proof on the defendant rather than the plaintiff.

Mr Rampton will describe the extensive amount of research which was required to prepare for the case. This included visiting the Auschwitz death camp. For tickets visit abingdonschool.savoysystems.co.uk
