PROPOSALS to build two new homes in north Oxford will be decided by councillors on Wednesday.

The proposal to build the properties within the grounds of 122 Banbury Road has been called in by four Liberal Democrat Oxford City councillors and will be debated at the West Area planning committee as a result.

They said they thought it would affect the fabric of the area. But city council staff argue the homes should be built.

They said they had ‘carefully considered’ what impact the homes might have – and concluded it ‘would not have an unacceptable impact on residential amenity’.

The authority said the homes would not ‘lead to a substantial loss of daylight nor cause an unacceptable loss of privacy or an unacceptable, overbearing impact to any neighbour’.

Councillors Paul Harris, Tom Landell-Mills, Liz Wade and Steve Goddard have all asked for the plan to be discussed by councillors ‘due to local concerns’ over the impact on the North Oxford Victorian Suburb Conservation Area.

A consultation was held over the plans between December 12, 2018 and January 3. The city council said ‘minor amendments’ were sought to the application and have been accepted.

The planning committee will be held at Oxford Town Hall from 6pm.
