Met Office Chief Meteorologist, Paul Gundersen, said: "The strong north-westerly winds will also affect southwest Scotland late on Tuesday, spreading across much of England and Wales through Wednesday.

"Gusts of 50-55 mph are likely inland and up to 65 mph along western coasts. Winds will gradually ease during the afternoon."

Heavy rain is expected to batter the county from 11am today through to 4pm as it begins to ease. During this time wind speeds are expected to sit around 25mph.

The Met Office predicts strong winds to move in later this evening with gusts of up to 40mph by midnight.

Tomorrow is expected to be a drier day but strong winds will continue to batter the county and gather pace heading into the afternoon.

Storm Gareth is expected to be at its worst between 11am and 1pm tomorrow as gusts of 45mph are predicted and showers.

Both wind and rain is expected to ease off heading into the evening.

The Met Office warning says public transport is expected to be affected, as well as the potential loss of power. It also warned of delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges.
