POLICE have warned revellers to 'consider how to get home following a night out' and 'ensure their personal safety' after a woman was sexually assaulted in the early hours.

Thames Valley Police made the comment after a woman was subjected to two sexual assaults in Oxford on Monday.

Between 12.45am and 1.15am the victim, a woman in her late twenties, was walking near to The Plain in the direction of Magdalen Bridge.

When she reached the bridge, she was approached by a man on a bike who touched her inappropriately over her clothing from behind.

The victim screamed and the man cycled off in the direction of the city centre.

As she continued her journey and reached the area of St Mary’s Church and Brasenose College she was again approached.

On this occasion, the man grabbed her and tried to hug her before touching her inappropriately over her clothing.

The man is described as around 5ft 7ins tall with a slim build. He was wearing a dark coloured baseball cap and a white bandana with a black paisley style pattern which was pulled up over his face, and so the skin colour of the offender is not known.

He was aged in his late teens to early twenties and was wearing a dark long-sleeved top and dark trousers.

The victim was not injured and nothing was stolen, but she was left shaken by the experience, police said.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Isaac van den Eshof, of Oxford CID based at St Aldate’s police station, said: “I am appealing to anybody who was in the local area in the early hours of Monday morning at around the same time of the victim, and who may have seen either incident or the offender, to contact police.

“I would also be keen to hear from anybody who was driving in the area between 12.45am and 1.15am who may have dash-cam footage of the High Street area to make contact.

“Although this is a serious incident, I do believe it to be isolated.

“However, I would like to remind people that it always worth considering how you will get home following a night out and to ensure your personal safety while out in the city.

“We are investigating this offence thoroughly and would appeal to anyone with any information to call the 24-hour non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 43190084113.

“Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or make a report online.”
