A MAN has been jailed after stealing bagfuls of electronics from a phone shop on Christmas Day.

Damien Paintin, of Falcon Close, Oxford, was found guilty of burgling the Cell Phone Repairs shop in Upper Bar, at Templars Square Shopping Centre.

It happened on Christmas Day 2017, about 6.45pm when two burglars were seen on CCTV acting suspiciously in Templars Square.

The pair jumped over a wall into the phone repair shop, before jumping back with three large bags full of electricals.

The haul included laptops screens, chargers, headphones, games consoles and accessories and iPad covers.

Paintin, 29, was sentenced to 20 weeks in prison at a hearing at Oxford Magistrates court on Friday, March 22.

His accomplice Jamie Goddard, 26, of Nightingale Avenue in Oxford, pleaded guilty to the offence at an earlier hearing on November 13,  and was sentenced at the same court to a 12-month community rehabilitation order.

Investigating officer PC Chris Kidd, based at St Aldates police station, said: “This offence occurred on Christmas Day when the victim was away from his business spending time with his family.

“The actions of Goddard and Paintin were selfish and they used the opportunity of the premises being empty to commit this offence.

“Detecting and preventing burglary remains a top priority for the Oxford area, and we will always investigate thoroughly to bring offenders to justice.”
