WANTAGE MP Ed Vaizey has hinted that he is moving towards supporting a second referendum on Brexit.

Asked if he would back another vote, the former minister replied: "Still unconvinced but may end up supporting."

Mr Vaizey suggested he was unaware of reports this morning claiming he is one of a number of Tories set to back the 'Kyle-Wilson amendment', which would see an approved Brexit deal put to voters.

Meanwhile, fellow Oxfordshire Conservative Robert Courts voted for the prime minister's deal last week, despite resigning over it last year.

Mr Vaizey has previously said he did not want a second referendum, but that it could be the only way forward.

In a letter to constituents in late 2018, he wrote: "I do not support a second referendum. However, if a deal cannot get through Parliament, it may be the only option available to break the impasse, though even that is doubtful.

"A second referendum will simply divide the country further, while still probably resulting in a vote in favour of Brexit."

Oxford West and Abingdon MP Layla Moran is a vocal supporter of a second referendum, while Oxford East MP Anneliese Dodds also backed a 'confirmatory public vote' in last week's 'indicative votes'.

In the same vote, Witney's Robert Courts and Banbury's Victoria Prentis rejected a second referendum, while Henley's John Howell, like Mr Vaizey, did not vote.
