A PETROL station operator told it ‘should be issued with an ASBO’ during a failed planning bid has lodged another.

Motor Fuel Group (MFG) is one of the largest forecourt operators in the country, with 900 stations under the Esso, BP, Shell, Texaco, JET and Murco brands.

In February, Cherwell district councillors said the company was ‘playing fast and loose’ with planning legislation and had shown ‘no corporate responsibility whatsoever’.

Its bid to get retrospective permission for forecourt lights for its Bloxham petrol station – which council studies found were brighter than some floodlights at FA-approved football matches – was turned down.

District councillor for Adderbury, Bloxham and Bodicote, Chris Heath, said the lights had lit up the village ‘like Blackpool’.

MFG has now lodged another retrospective plan for two lights on the outside of a Londis shop off the forecourt of the station, in South Newington Road.

Neighbours living opposite the station, including some in Grade II listed Killowen House, said the lights are ‘totally unacceptable and unnecessary for the safe operation of the site’.

Cherwell District Council’s planning committee will be asked to decide on the most recent application at a meeting next Thursday.
