MONEY was stolen from a charity box at Dorchester Abbey twice within 24 hours.

The first incident took place at about 2.15pm on Tuesday, March 19, with the second theft on Wednesday, March 20 at about 10.20am.

Thames Valley Police has released CCTV images of two men they would like to speak to in connection with the thefts.

The Revd Canon Sue Booys, rector of Dorchester Abbey, said: “A man who stole from the Abbey Gift Box was successfully prosecuted last year using evidence from our CCTV following the quick thinking of our Treasurer who observed the offender making a further attempt, recognised him and contacted the police.

“Whilst sympathetic to the plight of those who find themselves without resources - we contribute regularly to the Wallingford Food Bank and Oxford Homeless Charities - Dorchester Abbey is clear that the removal of money donated via the gift box is a crime and we will always do our best to assist the police in apprehending offenders.”
