THE Against Breast Cancer Achievement Awards are back to recognise the selfless work of ordinary people throughout the county.

Nominations are now open for the Abingdon charity's annual awards, which celebrate the successes of those who have demonstrated a passion and commitment to helping others.

There are nine award categories to choose from, including fundraiser of the year, charity of the year, and lifetime achievement award.

Film actors Winston Ellis and Andy Beckwith, who have starred in everything from the Pirates of the Caribbean to Game of Thrones, will host the awards.

Mr Ellis said he was proud to be involved, adding: "I was lucky enough to be nominated in 2016 for their lifetime achievement award.

"Their research is cutting edge and vital in finding a vaccine for secondary spread breast cancer, so I'm happy to help where I can."

Kelly Gibson, corporate partnership manager, said: “There are people who selflessly help others in their community or workplace every single day, they don’t do it for recognition or thanks but would it be nice if they could be recognised, if they were shown how appreciated they are."

All shortlisted nominees will receive a free ticket to the awards ceremony in Reading on October 24. Nominate via achievementawards.org by August 30.
