OXFORDSHIRE'S Morris dancers are a notoriously hardy breed, and this shot shows that they really do keep dancing – come hell or high water!

These were the Morris men of Bampton, near Witney, in 1932, when the village was inundated by a foot of water.

The side are pictured by the Elephant and Castle pub on Bridge Street – now sadly gone.

This photo was used as part of an exhibition on the history of Oxfordshire Morris men put on at Bampton Library in 2014 by Bampton Community Archive group member Janet Rouse.

The pub, which dated back to the 17th century, closed around the year 2000 and has been a private house ever since.

However, some say on quiet nights you can still hear the jingle and splosh of Morris men wading through the floods...
