BUDGET hotel chain Travelodge has launched a new dual workplace programme as part of a drive to create 3,000 jobs nationwide.

This will include 25 jobs in Oxford for students struggling to make ends meet.

The programme from the Thame-based chain, which operates more than 560 UK hotels, is the first of its kind to offer students a permanent job with flexible working hours.

If a student worked about 24 hours a week at Travelodge they could earn about £10,000 a year, according to the chain.

The company, which runs Oxford branches in Abingdon Road and Peartree, is recruiting for 25 jobs that need to be filled in the city this summer.

Positions include roles in reception, restaurants and housekeeping.

To design this new initiative, the hotel chain surveyed 1,500 of its student employees to gain further insight into the student recruitment pool of talent.

Travelodge chief executive Peter Gowers said: “Today’s students have to study harder than ever and meet the rising costs of education.
