ARMED officers combed through bushes next to a busy Oxford A-road after a man was seen with a knife.

Police searched shrubbery along the A423 Southern Bypass, near the Hinksey Hill Interchange, late on Sunday morning following the report from a concerned caller.

A Thames Valley Police spokesman said: "We were called that day with a report of a man with a knife in Grenoble Road at about 11am.

"During our investigation, searches were carried out on the A423 Southern Bypass, and the man with the knife was located."

A man who drove along Southern Bypass at about 11.45am, who asked not to be named, said he saw one 'female armed officer' searching the bushes behind the traveller site at Red Bridge Hollow.

The police spokesman stressed that 'no offence had been committed' but added that the knife was recovered and destroyed.

Grenoble Road runs for about two miles between Blackbird Leys and Sandford on Thames, but police did not specify exactly where the man was spotted.
