EIGHT Oxford University scientists are among 50 of the UK’s world-leading researchers elected to join the prestigious Fellowship of the Academy of Medical Sciences.

The new Fellows have been selected for their outstanding contributions to advancing medical science, cutting edge research discoveries, and translating developments into benefits for patients and wider society.

The new Fellows include Professor Helen McShane, Director of Oxford NIHR Biomedical Research Centre and Professor of Vaccinology.

Prof McShane leads a research group focusing on TB vaccine development.

This spans early vaccine design and testing through to field testing in TB endemic countries.

The other new Fellows are: Professor Colin Baigent, Professor Sarah Darby; Professor Benjamin Davis; Professor Richard Price; Professor Alison Simmons; Professor Ann Walker; and Professor Sir Robert Lechler.
