A DRIVER at a day hospice in Wokingham is encouraging other residents to volunteer as the centre faces a shortage of drivers.

Derek Harding has volunteered as a driver for Sue Ryder Wokingham Day Hospice for the passed four years after retiring.

He wanted to continue to do something that felt worthwhile and that also helps the community.

He said: “My favourite part of my role is meeting new people. I would encourage others to volunteer as it is such a friendly environment and allows you to meet lots of different types of people."

Mr Harding’s role includes picking up patients and transporting them to the hospice.

The Wokingham Day Hospice is currently putting a call out for more volunteer drivers to help them provide their services.
