AN 'ART trail' has been running in Wallingford for the past week to promote art, craft and design in the local community.

With the theme 'Wonderful Wallingford', the trail of work also aims to support independent shops in the town.

Artwork entries no larger than A5 were accepted from children and adults ahead of the trail opening last Saturday. It finishes tomorrow.

Locals can collect a map from Sew Very Vintage, Poppycraft or the Information Centre and follow the trail to see the art on display.

Natalie Bright, from Art Haus Club, says she invented the trail.

She explained: “I hope to encourage more young artists in the creative process, while supporting the community. Art is great for helping to improve both mental and physical well-being.

“The children from Art Haus Club took part in a Mary Poppins themed workshop. Using a variety of mixed media, paints and photographic collage, they created artwork featuring landmarks from Wallingford like the bridge and castle.

"The children’s artwork was then displayed alongside professional artists in one of the participating shop windows.”

The Art Trail is designed as a collaboration between local organisations to support shopping in the town as well as celebrating artists in the area.
