A TRAVELLER site was branded 'an absolute disgrace' by a county councillor in 1976 due to its poor conditions.
Litter and rubbish had been strewn across the Slade Park caravan site, Oxford, in February that year, while toilets were 'non-existent'.
Peter Audley-Miller told the county council's amenities and countryside committee: "It's nothing more than a squalid heap of rubble.

"The toilets are non-existent, there are no windows in them, the electricity supplies have bare wires direct into the main supplies without switch boxes - an absolute menace."
He added: "I wouldn't condemn anybody to live in such squalor."
