A 7-YEAR-old girl has chosen the name of a new housing development.

David Wilson Homes Southern's site in Mendip Heights, Didcot, will be known as Dida Gardens, thanks to Aureus Primary School pupil Beth Mhishi.

The homebuilder enlisted the help of the local school children to name the development of two to five bedroom properties.

After receiving a number of suggestions, Beth was chosen as the competition winner.

She'll receive a £20 book token for herself and a £30 book token for her school.

The name was inspired by the Dida, a 7th-Century Mercian sub-king, who originally gave Didcot its name.
