ANOTHER former Oxford University student is increasingly likely to become the country's next prime minister.

Five out of the six remaining candidates for the Conservative leadership attended the institution, which is renowned for producing national leaders.

The front runner, former Henley MP Boris Johnson, attended Balliol College, as did International Development Secretary Rory Stewart.

Both the Environment Secretary, Michael Gove, and former Brexit Secretary, Dominic Raab, attended Lady Margaret Hall, while Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt went to Magdalen.

27 British prime ministers have attended Oxford in total, including Theresa May, David Cameron, Tony Blair and Margaret Thatcher.

The other contender this time around, Home Secretary Sajid Javid, attended Exeter University.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock, another Oxford alumnus, pulled out of the contest yesterday.

Three further votes are due next week to whittle the field down to two candidates, who will then be put to Conservative Party members to decide the next prime minister.
