ANOTHER budget gym could open in Oxford if a planning application gets the go-ahead.

Unique Bodies Gym currently operates within the Oxford City Rowing Club in Meadow Lane.

But it could move into a unit in Peterley Road, at the Horspath Industrial Estate in Cowley, if the city council allows it.

Several budget gyms are already operating across the city, including Pure Gym, which has branches in Cowley at the Templars Shopping Park and Oxford city centre.

In planning documents published on the city council's website, the owners of Unique Bodies Gym state: "This successful local business now needs to relocate in the city because the rowing club is expanding and needs to take back the space.

"The business model for the Unique Bodies gym is for a 'no frills' training and work-out venue and the Peterley Road building will offer the same facilities as those at Meadow Lane."

The gym would be open from 6am until 11pm every day if it is given permission.

The building would bring three full-time staff currently working at the rowing club and another two part-time staff.

It is possible another eight to 10 self-employed trainers could be employed as part of the business when the new gym is reopened.
