Peter Gachegua, 48, Howth Drive, Woodley. Driving over the drink-drive limit. Imprisoned for 20 weeks, suspended for 18 months. Disqualified from driving for 36 months. Compensation £300. Costs £200.

Darren Lee Pearce, 49, of Kenilworth Crescent, Fleet. Possession of a controlled drug of Class A (diamorphine). Fined £83. Costs £115.

James Angus Hopper Collins, 56, of Anatt Avenue, Finchampstead. Driving over the 30mph speed limit in Wokingham. Driving record endorsed with three penalty points. Fined £60.

Ricky Cooper, 20, of Lucas Place, Jennets Park. Travelling with intent to avoid paying fare. Fined £400. Compensation £5.90. Costs £200.

Simon McNiffe, 49, of Church Lane, Reading. In breach of enforcement notice issues by Wokingham Borough Council in that they failed to cease using the land for the storage of vehicles and caravans. Fined £600. Costs £560.

Paul Anthony Sanchez, 30, of Deerhurst Avenue, Winnersh. Travelling with intent to avoid paying fare. Fined £500. Compensation £2.70. Costs £210.

Anthony Wheeler, 41, of Church Road West, Farnborough. Travelling with intent to avoid paying fare in Crowthorne. Fined £400. Compensation £4.50. Costs £40.

Hamid Korkchie, 54, of Coronation Road, Ascot. Failure to comply with a Statutory Off-Road Notification whilst using a large goods vehicle or passenger carrying vehicle. Fined £220. Ordered to pay vehicle excise back duty of £33.34. Costs £200.

Lee Martin, 31, of Abbotsbury, Great Hollands. Using an unlicensed vehicle. Fined £660. Ordered to pay vehicle excise back duty of £163.34. Costs £200.

Ian Michael Flitter, 32, of no fixed abode. Drunk and disorderly behaviour in Market Street, Bracknell. Discharged conditionally for six months. Costs £105.

A fundamental principle of justice is that it must be seen to be done. It is established in the UK that court cases should be heard in public.

This principle of open justice is acclaimed on a number of grounds: as a safeguard against judicial error, as a deterrent to perjury, to assist the deterrent function of criminal trials and to permit the revelation of matters of public interest.
