A DOZEN performers wowed the judges at the first ever Didcot's Got Talent event.

Organised by Play2Give and Angels Apa Performing Arts, the sell out show on Saturday was won by American Dance School's performance of the Lion King.

Dressed as a range of animals from the jungle, the Wantage-based group impressed with their fun and energetic take on the classic musical.

They decided to donate their £100 prize back into the pot to be given out to the various local charities the show was supporting.

In second place were The Theatre Rejects and young pianist Nathan Hill came third.

Organisers have already pledged to bring back the event for a second time in 2020 and a date could be confirmed this week.

Auditions for the show have been held in the last few weeks and 12 finalists were chosen.

On the night a panel of judges, including Clare Cook, CEO of Didcot-based charity Soundabout and star of CBBC's The Worst Witch, Megan Hughes, picked the top three.

The night was hosted by radio presenter Neil Veglio.

Andy Baker, of Play2Give, said: "It was an amazing night. A fantastic show. Everyone seemed to love it and now they cant wait for Play2Give and Angels Apa to organise another one in 2020.

"A massive thank you to everyone who came and made it a success including all who were involved in both auditions and the Cornerstone staff to all who made it a sell out show.

"And to all the amazing final 12 acts who did brilliantly to get to show night after a packed auditions day."

Play2Give is a long-term supporter of the Oxford Children's Hospital and local brain injury charity Headway and has donated thousands since 2007.

The organisation has recently extended the number of causes it supports to include Be Free Young Carers, Soundabout and others.
