TWO schools in Bracknell have been taking part in an after-school club to equip them with practical skills they can use all their life.

Crown Wood Primary School and St Joseph’s Catholic School have been taking part in the sessions outside of normal lessons, which were set up by the local business Brain Train Me.

The pupils had the opportunity to share their feelings, practise mindfulness techniques, meditation exercises and each week explore a different theme that helped encourage develop resilience. Participating staff then reported noticing a difference in the children that took part.

Nicola Strudley set up Brain Train Me just under a year ago as a result of seeing more people struggling.

She said “I was seeing more and more adults in my private practice struggling to deal with life’s challenges.

I felt strongly that young people should be taught strategies to manage adversity, disappointments and setbacks as they grow up. Having a toolkit of things that can be drawn upon when needed.”

The pupils were able to give feedback about how they were feeling as they came into the club and again when they left using red, amber and green buzzers.

One boy, who attended the sessions, added: “When I do the star breathing all my worries disappear.”
