STRUGGLING Watlington stunned title hopefuls Carterton with a 6-0 victory in Division 1 of the Oxford & District League.

The whitewash moved the relegation-threatened side out of the bottom two and denied their rivals the chance to go top of the table.

As a result of the shock defeat, Carterton slipped to third and are now four-and-a-half points behind leaders Headington having played a game more.

Banbury Central A are now second, level on points with Carterton but with a better shot count, after their 5-1 victory over Witney Mills, for whom Chris Weller picked up their sole point.

The other top-flight game saw West Witney thrash basement side Witney Town 6-0.

In Division 2, leaders City & County A took on second-placed Adderbury, and cruised to a 6-0 whitewash.

They are now six points clear of South Oxford A, who are their new nearest pursuers after a 5-1 victory over Kennington.

Headington B beat Chipping Norton 4-2, despite the sides finishing level on overall shots.

Division 3 saw one of the comebacks of the season in the match at Bloxham.

Banbury Central B ended up winning 4-2, inspired by Ed Creed’s rink, who trailed 19-4 after nine ends but hit back to win 23-20.

Leaders Bicester surged

three-and-a-half points clear after a 5-1 success at Shiplake, who started the match in second.

They are now in third, after Thame leapfrogged them with a 4-2 triumph over Hanborough.

Division 4’s highlight was a game between the top two clubs.

Just a point separated

table-toppers Woodstock and Burford before their clash.

But after a 6-0 victory, Woodstock are now well clear.

City & County B are fourth but just a point off second following a 6-0 win at Oxford University Press.

Blackbird Leys boosted their hopes of finishing clear of the bottom with a 5-1 win over South Oxford B.
